Story:
Plagueborn was the senior project for my degree program. Covering two sessions the project was very ambitious for a class project. However, with a good team, considerable effort, and liberal use of freely available assets we were able to create a game that, in the instructors words, was “..far beyond what is expected of the course, easily one of, if not the, best games created for the course”. He gave us the feedback weeks before the course was complete. Regardless, we pressed on with making improvements to it right up until the deadline. Needless to say, we got an “A”.
While quite taxing to get the game to the level of production we did, several of us decided to keep working on the project. So, work has begun on revamping the game design document to create the game we want to create. First order of business is swapping out nearly all of the art assets for unique ones. Some people may recognize the models and textures as being from the Infinity Blade assets freely available on the Unreal Marketplace. Thanks for those Epic!

Design:
Plagueborn was created as sort of a Gauntlet clone, the later 3D ones not necessarily the 2D classic. Except we wanted ours to be darker, grittier, and harder. For class purposes we concentrated on basic gameplay functionality with a relatively high level of polish. Expanded enemy variety with greatly enhanced AI is a high priority for us moving forward.
